Bring the detail into the room.
Existing panelling can become a quiet backdrop or the part of the room you notice first. Tell us what is already on the wall, the finish it has and the colour you would like to try.

Have existing panels to repaint?
Send a few photos, your area and what you have in mind. We can discuss the scope and whether a visit is needed for a quote.
Need new panelling fitted? Ask us to confirm fitting and painting responsibility for your project. Installation is not included unless it has been expressly agreed in your quote.
Start with the wall, then the pattern
Send a straight-on photograph of the full wall, approximate width and height, and an image of the look you have in mind. Include doors, sockets, radiators, light switches and existing skirting boards in the photograph.
For a hall or stairs, show changes in level and the slope of the staircase. In a bedroom, include the bed position, headboard, bedside lights and sockets so the layout conversation reflects the room.
Set out the usable wall between doors and corners first. Compare the clear gaps, the frame widths and their relationship to furniture. Test the proposed lines on the actual wall before final measurements are agreed; copying a panel count from another room can leave awkward ends or put a division through a switch.
Which style catches your eye?
Shaker-style rectangles create a regular rhythm across the wall. Picture-frame mouldings make a lighter outline around larger areas. Tongue-and-groove gives a closer, repeated vertical line. Use those names to describe your reference, then look at how the proportions work around your furniture and trim.
Send a photo of your existing panelling and any colour or finish examples you like. In a bedroom, include the bed and bedside fittings so we can see the whole space.
Tell us about the existing finish
Is the panelling already painted, primed or bare? Do you know the material? Include close-ups of joints, damaged edges and areas where paint is lifting. The preparation, primer and finishing products need to suit what is actually there.
Ask how the panel faces, mouldings, edges and adjoining walls will be included. Say whether you want the wall and panelling in one colour or contrasting colours.
Why do panel joints show or crack?
A visible joint may involve movement, the fixing or material, an open gap, or the condition beneath the finish. Painting over the line does not establish or remove its cause. Show the joint close up and in the full wall, and say whether it changes or keeps returning.
Agree who assesses and makes good the underlying issue before the painted finish. Primer, filler and coating choices should suit the actual material and condition. Bare edges, previously painted mouldings and the wall behind may need different preparation; they should all be named in the scope.
Fitting, finishing and other work
For new panelling, separate the layout and materials from fitting and painting. Confirm who handles each step, whether making good is included and when the surfaces will be ready to decorate.
Moving sockets, changing lighting and altering radiators are separate work to arrange with the appropriate trades. Acoustic systems, wet-area cladding and structural joinery should not be assumed to be part of a decorative painting enquiry.
- Agree the layout against real wall dimensions, fixed fittings and furniture.
- Identify material, profiles, quantities and who is responsible for fitting.
- Confirm cuts, corners, joints, fixing points and any wall repairs or making good.
- Agree when the surfaces are ready, then the compatible preparation, primer and finish.
- Confirm the adjoining walls, skirting and doors included in the painted result.
This is a sequence to agree for your project, not a claim that electrical, plumbing or joinery work is automatically included. Tell us what is already fitted and what you need done, so the quote can clearly set out the agreed work.
Compare the same scope
A materials kit, a fitting-only price and a painted finish are different things. List the walls, approximate dimensions, style, material if known, existing condition and painting requirements when you enquire.
Ask the quote to spell out materials, preparation, painting, any agreed fitting and exclusions. There is no published fixed panelling price here because the actual scope needs to be confirmed.
Ask for examples that match the job
Generated panelling studies are labelled as inspiration. The real hall and stair photo sequence includes existing painted decorative detail, without claiming who fitted it. For an example closer to your proposed layout, ask the team when you enquire and tell us the style and room you are considering.
